Introduction to Pokhara, Nepal
The starting point for many Himalayan treks is Pokhara, a lovely little city in the heart of lowland Nepal. Centred around the picturesque Phewa Lake, this city is an important base for travellers, providing an excellent assortment of restaurants, outdoor gear shops, bars and comfortable lodging. There are several other lakes surrounding Pokhara, but Phewa is the best if for relaxed boating or nothing else than to gaze at the reflection of the nearby snow-clad peaks in its waters. As Nepal's third-largest city, there is actually a lot to do in the centre itself, and many travellers find themselves lingering here much longer than expected. The World Peace Pagoda is located on a hill right in town, offering great mountain views without much exertion. For a taste of trekking, a hike up to Sarangkot is just the thing to get acclimated and soak in big views of the Annapurnas. Pokhara hotels can be found all over the city, from budget guest houses to plush resorts, providing a welcome touch of creature comfort after days spent trekking through the world's highest mountains.Visit our Pokhara Travel Guide
