Introduction to Dhulikhel - Outskirts
The small Newari town of Dhulikhel lies along the Arniko and the BP highways, popular crossroads connecting Kathmandu with the Tibetan border town of Kodari. Just 30kms southeast of Kathmandu, this scenic town is easy to reach by road and a great base for exploring the Himalayas that surround it. Dhulikhel is an ancient stop on the trade route between Nepal and Tibet, so there are plenty of interesting things to see and do in the outskirts of town. Gaukhureshwor Mahadev Temple is a pleasant 20-minute walk from town, next to Tundikhel Recreation Park. A little further uphill is Bhagwati Temple, dedicated to Kali, with simply stunning views over the town and the mountains. Several amazing day treks are possible around Dhulikhel, giving travellers outstanding views of Langtang Lirung, Gauri Shankar and Melungtse, all towering over 7,000m.
