Introduction to Chitwan, Nepal
Leopards, tigers and rare Ganges river dolphins are just a few of the stars on display in Nepal's amazing Chitwan region. Encompassing both the plains and the rolling foothills of the Himalayas, this is a wild place that lures hordes of visitors every year in search of adventure. The main attraction is Chitwan National Park, a wonderful wildlife preserve with good infrastructure, a relatively safe environment and several competent safari guide groups. Chitwan hotels are mainly lodges within the park that range from quite comfy digs to more earthbound accommodation. Jungle safaris are the primary activity here, followed by elephant rides, boating in nearby Rapti and hiking around the park. The Gharial Breeding Centre and the Haitsar Elephant Breeding Centre offer an excellent look into the preservation of the most endangered creatures that live in this region. Bishajari Tal consists of 20,000 small lakes scattered around a park that offer even more wildlife viewing and recreation. If Chitwan isn't enough, Parsa Wildlife Reserve is just next door for further animal encounters.Visit our Chitwan Travel Guide
