Walking Tours: embarking on a walking tour is one of the best ways to appreciate Yangon is to walk around the city. Popular tours start at the Sule Paya and head towards the City Hall. The Immigration Office is located on Mahabandoola Road and used to house the biggest department store in Asia. The Emmanuel Baptist Church and the High Court Building are all nearby. Continuing south on Pansodan Road, head towards the Yangon River as this will eventually lead to the Strand Hotel where refreshments can be enjoyed.
There are also several many other walking routes which begin in different parts of the city including the Strand Hotel. Walking around the city is safe, but visitors should be careful as there have been cases of pick pocketing.
Boating: is a very pleasant way to spend at an afternoon. There are lakes and boating ponds across the city, but two of the nicest Inye Lake and Twante Canal.
Hlawgar Wildlife Park: a short drive away from Yangon will lead you to the enormous park. There are over 70 species of herbivorous animals and 90 species of birds. The beautiful lakes at the park make great picnic spots and boating and fishing can also be enjoyed.
Running: informal groups consisting of both expatriates and locals participate in short runs between Traders Hotel and the zoo every Sunday.
Exercise: the People’s Park and the areas around the lake are the most popular areas for those who wish to exercise. In the early mornings and late evenings quite a few locals can be seen jogging, practicing Tai Chi, walking or strolling in this huge expanse of green.
