Yangon (Rangoon) Travel Guide
National Museum: unfortunately, this museum isn’t as organised as many National Museums across the world. There is a sparse collection of items, many of which are not labelled, but some of which date back to ancient times. Artefacts include the eight metre Sihasana (Lion Throne), royal regalia, old maps and examples of wood carvings. Aung San Road. Open: 10:00 to 16:00, daily.
Bogyoke Aung San Museum: is the former residence of General Aung San and his wife. The house was built in 1920 and has been incredibly well preserved. Visitors will find bookcases full of several English books, family portraits including photos of Suu Kyi when she was young and furniture that was used by the family when they lived here. Bahan Township. Open: 10:00 to 15:30, Tuesday to Sunday.
Wingaba Art Gallery: is one of the largest and most impressive in Myanmar. It has recently hosted several exhibitions including many works of art by local artists and students. The gallery is owned by two expatriates who wanted to create a space to showcase some of the city’s finest art. Many oil paintings can be seen here as well as prints, photos and charcoal. 29 Wingaba Road. Open: 10:00 to 17:00, Monday to Saturday.
