Introduction to Yangon, Myanmar
Yangon used to be the capital of Myanmar, or Burma, until the military junta moved the capital to Naypyidaw in 2006.

However, Yangon remains the country's largest city and the main gateway for visitors.

Yangon hotels are dotted around the city, with most high-end options located around Kandawgyi Lake.

The highlight of any visit to Yangon is the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Situated atop Singuttara Hill, the pagoda is simply breathtaking.

There are many temples in the city, but Shwedagon is the most beautiful, although Sule Pagoda is also a sight to behold.

There are two museums in the city that are worthwhile visiting: the National Museum of Myanmar and the Myanmar Gem Museum.

Shopping is also fun and a cultural experience.

Bargaining is a must, but most sellers are not pushy, which makes shopping fun.

The best place to start is Bogyoke Aung San Market.

However, stay away from buying gems in the markets.
