Introduction to Kalaw, Myanmar
Near the Inle Lake in the Shan hills of Burma is the tiny town of Kalaw which despite its small size and fairly remote location has been used as the setting of a couple of well known German novels and the legacy of British colonial rule is evident in the lovely architecture of many Kalaw hotels. Many hotels in Kalaw are built in the colonial style and due to hotel regulations here these are the kind of grand historical buildings where you will almost invariably stay if you book a room in one of the hotels in Kalaw in advance. Most of the hotels are located in a compact part of the town and all can be reached on foot. This is a very small urban centre and heavy transport is not necessary.
