Casablanca (Kasablanca) Travel Guide
February Festivals

Aid el Kebir: is an important date in the Muslim calendar and commemorates the story of God’s redemption for Ibrahim (Abraham) for sacrificing his son. Every family that can afford it will slaughter a sheep, and for weeks prior to the festival you will see them tethered up everywhere you go. Afterwards, the skins are hung up and cured. Shops and restaurants are usually closed as this is a traditional family gathering and most people return to their hometowns.
March Festivals

Fete du Throne: commemorates Mohammed VI’s accession to the throne in 1999. Towns provide free entertainment including a fantasia, when armed horsemen in full combat dress demonstrate their agility and show their loyalty to the makhzen.
April Festivals

Jazzablanca Festival: comprises of European and local musicians who participate in this annual event every April. The event has become very popular and huge crowds assemble to watch the different acts. Many top names have attended in the past, including John Lee Hooker, Diane Reeves and Al Jarreau. The Jazzablanca Festival is also an ideal time for budding bands to display their talents in the open arena.
June Festivals

Boulevard des Jeunes Musiciens: also known as the Young Musicians Festival, runs over four days in June. The event focuses on the development and realisation of young artistic talent, and people from all of the country gather to showcase their talents. A diverse range of musical styles is on offer, from traditional Moroccan sounds to pop, rock and hip-hop.
