Nearly 4,000 feet above sea level in the very centre of Morocco, Ouarzazate Airport connects with Casablanca, Agadir and a handful of other cities in the country. Just north of the city centre, with its famous movie studios and historic buildings, the airport area includes the main Avenue, Moulay Abdellah, and Avenue Ai-Maghreb Al-Arabi, where there is a good covered market selling a variety of locally-produced goods. There is little to the north of the airport aside from a park, suitable for walking along until the wilderness eventually leads to the desert; the city is often called 'the door to the desert'. From the airport it's a simple 10-minute taxi ride into the city centre, meaning this location is well placed for getting in and out. There are very few Ouarzazate airport hotels given the proximity of the terminal building to the city centre. Accommodation by the Cite des Cadres is, however, just half a mile away.
