Introduction to Midelt, Morocco
Tucked between the High and Middle Atlas ranges, Midelt marks the shift from northern desert to the mountainous south. Midelt has a breathtaking backdrop of the Eastern High Atlas peaks, with the highest summit being Djebel Ayachi. There is a fresh spring that flows from the base of the mountain (also spelled Jbel Ayachi) that is only a couple kilometres from town and worth exploring. Midelt hotels make great bases for exploring the mountain range, which is most enjoyable during the spring or autumn as winter is bitterly cold and the summer heat is usually scorching. Midelt offers a weekly market at the town souk, selling the region's famous plums, walnuts, apricots, and pomegranates, in addition to other food, hand-woven carpets and local trinkets. Visitors will enjoy a trip to El Karma Couscous, where they can learn how to prepare traditional hand-rolled couscous alongside women from the neighbouring village of Khoukhate in a half-day cooking course which includes lunch and a trip to the nearby springs in the afternoon. This peaceful city is a perfect stopover when visiting the Eastern High Atlas range or travelling to the nearby medieval capital of Fes.other spellings: midelthotels, midalt otel, midetl hotell, medelt hote, nidelt hotle
