Founded in the largest phosphate exporting region in the world, the city of Khouribga owes its growth to the fruitful industry. The city sits on the Ourdigha Plateau and is centrally located between Morocco's three key cities, with the capital of Rabat to the north, Casablanca in the northwest and Marrakech in the south. The Khouribga stadium is one of the city's highlights, along with the few parks, an old church, a towering mosque and the rotating clock tower fountain that stands in the city centre. Many Khouribga hotels have pools and spas, and there are traditional hammams in town - do-it-yourself steam baths offering scrubs and massages. Most of the traditional goods unique to Morocco can be bought at the shops and markets here, including leatherwear, tagine cooking ware, birad tea pots and handmade Berber carpets. There is an airport offering domestic flights to Casablanca, Anfa, Rabat and Kenitra. Khouribga is off the beaten path for most tourists, but is sure to offer a true Moroccan experience.
