Introduction to Erfoud - City Centre
Historic Erfoud is sited on the main highway into the Sahara Desert from western Morocco. From the town, the desert's sands sweep towards the Algerian border 60kms away. People often use Erfoud City Centre hotels as a base for visiting the Erg Chebbi Dunes and Merzouga Village. The city centre itself is an ambient location with a wonderful souk where fresh olives and dates, turbans, carpets, Eastern jewellery and other souvenirs can be found. Eateries in town serve local delicacies based on fava beans and chickpeas as well as pizzas and other international offerings. Street side cafes in the central quarter are pleasant places to relax and chat while drinking mint tea, coffee or avocado milk shakes. A short walk north of town, the Royal Palace is a pleasing sight although it is not open to the public. This is also one of the better spots for taking in fabulous sunset views over the Sahara.
