Introduction to Al Hoceima, Morocco
Al Hoceima is a port city on the Alboran Sea, on the northern coast of Morocco. Mainly developed by Spanish troops, the city's schools, buildings, and signature white and blue houses are built in Spanish colonial style. The city features a lovely Spanish Catholic church, and boasts beautiful beaches and olive groves against the mountainous backdrop of the Rif. It borders three national parks, which draw visitors with their cliff-side views and forested trails. Hike to Jbel Tidiquin, the highest peak in the Rif, and rest at the mountaintop town of Chefchaouen. Get up before dawn to watch fisherman using huge spotlights to attract fish off the main beach. The Place Massira El Khadraa is centrally located near most Al Hoceima hotels and is where the city's nicest shops, restaurants and cafes can be found. There are also markets in town selling traditional crafts, local sweets and other souvenirs. Between Al Hoceima and the nearby city of Saidia, there are a number of attractions including the caves of the Camel, the Zegzel throats, and a scattering of Spanish fortresses.
