Introduction to Taxco, Mexico
Taxco is formally titled Taxco de Alarcon but everyone refers to it simply as Taxco. It is a small city in the state of Guerrero and it translates loosely as 'ball park'. Many Taxco hotels were built during the first silver rush when miners and their commerce flooded into the area. Silver is still a major industry here, and tourism is on the increase. Not all establishments are older style buildings, however, with several new motels and fine accommodations built in the past decade. Tourists come to see the Parish of Santa Prisca and the Holy Week in the region often sees most rooms booked out.
