Introduction to San Juan Teotihuacan, Mexico

San Juan Teotihuacan is a town located in western Mexico, beside the venerated ruins of Teotihuacan. Legend has it that this UNESCO World Heritage site was chosen to be the very centre of the universe by ancient deities. Quetzalcoatl Temple, the Sun and Moon pyramids and other ancient structures have survived the centuries largely intact, leaving visitors spell-bound at their immense majesty. There is a varied selection of hotels in San Juan Teotihuacan for visitors to choose from. In addition to the town's principal attraction, it offers a fabulous 16th century monastery and an atmospheric central town area. Here, visitors will find the venue for one of the region's finest traditional bazaars (tianguis) as well as two colourful festivals. The tianguis bazaar provides tourists with the perfect opportunity to sample the diverse local delicacies and purchase unique souvenirs. The festivals are held in honour of John the Baptist and Christ the Redeemer. The latter is an eight-day extravaganza held in July and features Aztec and Sembradore dances, lavish firework displays, competitions and amusement rides.
