Introduction to Puerto Escondido, Mexico
Puerto Escondido translates literally as 'Hidden Port' but keeping the delights of this small town in the Mexican state of Oaxaca is becoming increasingly difficult with tourism increasing annually. Puerto Escondido hotels are really beginning to proliferate in all areas of the town especially near the waterfront. The region boasts several lovely beaches including Zicatela which hosts international surfing competitions. The accommodations are all within walking distance to the sea and south of Puerto Escondido is a wonderful lagoon that offers superlative fishing opportunities. The establishments are often booked out during holidays such as the Fiestas de Noviembre and the various sporting events on the beaches and the lagoons. Visitors are advised to check before arriving if major events are being held in the area since room prices and availability are both severely affected during these peak times.
