Introduction to Playa del Carmen - Tulum
The Mayan ruins of Tulum date back thousands of years but the modern town of Tulum is a busy little place with a population of ten thousand people and a thriving beach hotel scene. Tulum hotels crowd the beach front with almost four dozen smaller, eclectic hotels in Tulum overlooking the water. Tulum is located on the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico and so as a result is part of the conurbation of resort towns that start at Cancun and head all the way south. Some Tulum hotels are nothing more than hammocks and bungalows on the sand and many younger travellers line up to grab a night or two at these places.
