Introduction to Morelia - Patzcuaro
Patzcuaro hotels are invariably booked to the rafters during the annual Day of the Dead celebrations. This Mexico-wide festival is centred on Patzcuaro and its lakes and so thousands of pilgrims make their way here each year. The town name translates loosely as dyed in black. Hotels in Patzcuaro are largely budget affairs and backpacker style dormitories are abundant and exceptionally good value. Patzcuaro is located in the Mexican state of Michoacan and it is known also for the strength of its indigenous history and culture. Traditions and cultures dating back thousands of years are upheld here. Many Patzcuaro hotels are contained in wooden buildings with hand tiled rooftops and cobblestone streets rather than black top or tar is the rule everywhere in town. The town centre contains a large plaza and a fountain and several bronze statues of religious figures. Plants and herbs grow all across Patzcuaro and depending on the season the scents of mint and basil can fill the air.other spellings: patzcuarohotels, patscuaro otel, patscuaro hotell, patzcauro hote
