Introduction to Monterrey - San Nicolas de los Garza
San Nicolas de los Garza is a city in the northeast of Mexico, and is part of the wider Monterrey Metropolitan area. The city is a well-heeled residential area, hosting the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon as well as five major shopping centres. The shopping centres were built at the end of the 1980s, when service industries replaced the former manufacturing hubs. These malls serve all parts of the city as well as the university area. Besides the malls, there's little here to interest the casual tourist, but repeat visitors to Monterrey might find that San Nicolas de los Garza hotels make a pleasant change from those in the city centre. There's some decent nightlife on Avenida Los Angeles too, where some of the venues have a cowboy theme. Travellers can get here by flying to Monterrey International Airport and then taking a taxi.
