Introduction to Mexico City - Tlalpan
The largest of the 16 delegaciones (administrative boroughs) which make up Mexico City, Tlalpan, is located roughly 30kms southwest of the city centre. It is not known for its tourism, although its colonial architecture, cobblestone pathways and tree-lined streets make it a pretty place to visit. There is plenty to keep visitors occupied here, with one of the highlights being Cumbres del Ajusco National Park, just a couple of kilometres from downtown Tlalpan and home to the Ajusco volcanic mountains. The historical downtown area is a picturesque part of the city, with the main square, Plaza de la Constitucion, being a pleasant place to stroll around. Among the main attractions in the historical district are the Mercado Publico - the last remaining Porfirian style public market in Mexico City - and the impressive 17th century San Miguel de Xicalco Church. Tlalpan hotels and guest houses can be found throughout the central area, in close proximity to the main sights and restaurants. Visit our Mexico City Travel Guide
