Uxmal is yet another of South America’s ancient treasures.
This large ruined complex of the Mayans is part of the Yucatan Peninsula and though the entire ancient complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site there are three Uxmal hotels and all are within comfortable walking distance to the ruins.
The Grand Pyramid at Uxmal is particularly impressive and several days can be spent exploring other major parts of the complex such as the Governor’s Palace, and the stepped pyramid shapes of the Adivino.
This latter ruin is known as the Pyramid of the Magician and legend has that it was built in one night.
Hotels in Uxmal are full of literature and handy resources such as maps and tour guides that inform visitors before their explorations of the ruins.
Uxmal hotels are low rise and don’t intrude on the imposing structures of the nearby ruins.
Comforts and conveniences are what could generally be expected of modest and mid-priced, but relatively new, hotels.
