Introduction to Merida, Mexico
Merida is located in the Yucatan Peninsula and is a richly historic city. Merida hotels are not all located with a view of the stunning Patria Monument or the Gobierno Palace but some are and the rooms that boast views of these places come at a premium price, naturally. Hotels in Merida are very busy when large conferences and exhibitions are held at the Cultural Centres like the Centro Cultural Andres Quintana Roo or the Centro Cultural Olimpo. Merida hotels may offer guided tours of the many temples and cathedrals in town such as the Cathedral of San Ildefonso which is the oldest church building in the Americas. The Templo de San Juan de Dios is a major tourist draw card in Merida and theatres such as the Colon and the Hector Herrera present major international live acts and shows. The Plaza Oriente is an enormous shopping centre and pretty much anything can be purchased here.
