Introduction to Manzanillo - Cihuatlan
In the eastern corner of Mexico's Jalisco State is the historic town of Cihuatlan in Manzanillio. Located on the banks of the Marabasco River along Highway 200, this town has been in existence since the days of the Conquistadors. Tuesdays are busy days in Manzanillio, as the weekly Tiangus Market is held just behind the town's largest school. Like most Mexican cities, the town square is the heart and soul with a pleasant open plaza where locals come to hang out. Standing over the central plaza is the city's gleaming white church, which dates back several centuries. It is a beautiful piece of architecture and provides the perfect backdrop to an evening lingering on the square. There are no particular tourist attractions here, as most travellers spend their time just up the coast. Cihuatlan hotels can be found situated around the central plaza area. This downtown core is also the place to find most of the restaurants and bars.
