Introduction to Isla Holbox, Mexico
Isla Holbox literally translates as 'black hole island' but try telling that to the increasing amounts of tourists and eco-tourists who rave about the island's many attractions. Located in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Isla Holbox is around a mile wide and can be reached on foot from the mainland at low tide. Bird life, lives in the lagoon that separates the district form mainland Mexico. Tourism is a growing business here and Isla Holbox hotels are beginning to proliferate. The properties are currently smaller family run outfits that offer exceptionally familiar and friendly service and many of the hoteliers are retired fishermen. Fishing is the main industry in the island though the lodgings and their staff are quickly becoming the main business of the region.
