Introduction to Chetumal - City Centre
Chetumal is the capital city of Quintana Roo, located on the Mexican side of the Belize-Mexico border. For many, Chetumal city centre hotels serve as a place to stop overnight when crossing the border. However, there are a few underrated attractions that might make a longer stay here worth considering. In recent times, the local authorities have succeeded in improving the level of English in the city, appealing more to foreign visitors. In addition, they have also succeeded in promoting cultural attractions, such as the Museum of Mayan Culture and the Fine Arts Cultural Centre. A two-mile boardwalk, which runs along the shore, allows visitors to see the Governor's Palace, as well as enjoy a range of bars and restaurants. Those who are feeling a little lazier might like to take the Balebuzz, a small bus which covers most of the main sights, departing from Museum of Mayan Culture. There are a limited number of domestic flights to the city's airport. However, many travellers get here by flying to Cancun, and then completing the journey by bus.
