Introduction to Cancun - City Centre
Cancun is probably Mexico's most well-known beach resort, especially among European travellers. Most holidaymakers end up staying in the tourist zone. This zone is situated on a long island, shaped like the number seven. This island is connected to the mainland, creating a series of lagoons. However, the original city centre is actually located on the mainland, where Cancun city centre hotels are now attracting increasing numbers of guests. The city centre is considered to be an authentic Mexican city, well off the tourist trail. Here, visitors have the opportunity to frequent shops, restaurants and nightclubs that cater to locals rather than tourists. Cancun International Airport is around nine miles from the city centre. On arrival, travellers staying in the city can get here by taking a first-class bus to the city's ADO bus station. There are plenty of flights here from across the Americas.
