Introduction to Campeche - City Centre
Campeche is the capital city of Campeche state, as well as a growing destination among tourists visiting Mexico. The city centre has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status for its well-preserved, 16th century walls. Elsewhere, the city is fairly relaxed and feels more like a smaller town than a state capital. The city centre is small enough to cover on foot, but plenty of taxis are available if the extreme heat becomes too much. There are plenty of attractions in the historic centre, but visitors shouldn't miss the Baluarte San Francisco, which offers the best views of the city. In addition, the Land Gate (Puerta del Tierra) hosts many of the city's shows and festivals. Accommodation in the city can sometimes be hard to find, but Campeche city centre hotels tend to be the cheapest, especially near the city's main square. Travellers can get here by flying to the city's small airport from Mexico City. Alternatively, there are more expensive flights from Houston, USA, to Cuidad del Carmen. This airport is around two hours' drive from the historic centre.other spellings: campechehotels, campech otel, campaech hotell, campach hote, cempech hotes
