Along with the energetic Paceville, St George’s Bay and Sliema are two other places worth visiting nearby. Indeed, St Julian’s – with its many hotels and restaurants – makes a good base from which to explore numerous attractions in the vicinity.
Spinola Palace: built by an Italian knight of the same name towards the end of the 17th century, this splendid palace is the historical highlight of the St Julian’s Bay area with its gardens and attractive facade. The structure was spoiled somewhat by the French occupation right at the end of the 18th century but remains impressive.
Chapel of the Sacred Heart Convent: located in the Tal-Ballut district, this small, attractive chapel sits in an area that is also home to a number of Roman tombs that were first discovered at the beginning of the 20th century.
Mediterraneo Marine Park: featuring sea lion and parrot shows and the chance to swim with dolphins, the Mediterraneo Marine Park is a popular getaway at Bahar ic-Cagh, just a few miles up the coast from St Julian’s Bay. Transfers to the park can be included in the ticket price and children under three years old get in for free.
