Gozo Travel Guide - Attractions
Gozo’s beaches are both pleasant and relatively tourist-free compared to Malta proper and Sicily to the north. In winter, the waves here are huge and make for a spectacular sight as they batter the Gozo coastline.
St George’s Basilica: the heart of Roman Catholic life on Gozo, St George’s Basilica is situated in Rabat close to the old citadel. The building features a wonderfully ornate and typically Roman Catholic interior dating back to the end of the 17th century.
Fungus Rock: is a huge slab of limestone just off the coast close to the Inland Sea and forming part of the iconic coastal view on the island. The snorkelling around the sea here is excellent.
Ramla: like most of the island, this distinctly red, sandy beach remains almost completely undeveloped and is often considered one of the best beaches in Malta. Just off the shoreline is Calypso Cave, which is thought to be the same cave referred to in Homer’s infamous work, The Odyssey.
Fontana: with a population of less than a thousand people, Fontana is at first glance a pleasant yet unremarkable village in the interior of the island. It does, however, feature a number of springs that are well worth a visit.
