Introduction to Valletta - Beach
The capital of Malta, Valletta, is a World Heritage site and has frequently been referred to as an open-air museum due to its Baroque architecture and apparently endless list of historically significant buildings. However, in addition to the cultural aspect of the city, the harbour and seafront areas offer considerable draws for tourists. Valletta has no sandy beaches, but there are certain areas where the coastal rocks are flat and suitable for sunbathing. On the north side of the city, the ferry stage offers a regular ferry service to nearby Sliema. Close by, the ferry stage is a popular area for swimming and water polo as well as the location of a fish market. There are several Valletta Beach hotels in close proximity to the seafront, although the majority of the town's hotels are located a few hundred metres away up the steep hill, in the town centre.
