Introduction to Sliema - Gzira
Gzira is a coastal resort on the northeast coast of Malta Island. It is sited on Marsamxett Harbour and faces across to Manoel Island and the historic citadel of Valletta. The larger resort of Sliema is east. The promenade at Gzira is an ambient tree-lined location which offers great views and has various cafes and children's play areas dotted along its length. There are several Gzira hotels and self-catering apartments on the waterfront. Restaurants here serve cuisine from India, China and Italy as well as fresh seafood and rabbit casseroles. Attractions in the district include nightlife venues, the picturesque marina just before Sliema, Our Lady Church, a colourful garden complex and Fort Manoel. There are no beaches at Gzira but there is access to the sea, which allows visitors to cool off on hot days. Some places to stay here have swimming pools and there is also a public pool 500m from the causeway for Manoel Island.
