Introduction to Attard, Malta
The Maltese village of Attard and its two neighbouring villages of Balzan and Lija form the 'Three Villages', set in the very centre of the island. Inhabited for 2,000, the Three Villages are known for their sweet-smelling air due to public gardens crowded with flowers and nearby citrus orchards. Set facing the flatlands holding the city of Mdina, the countryside around the villages is a collection of valleys, some of which hold ancient catacombs dating from Roman times or even earlier. The centre of the village is thronged on Sundays with church-goers exiting from the lovely St Mary's parish church with its beautiful gilded image of the Holy Mother of God. Visitors staying in Attard hotels mingle with the crowds, lunching at bistros and cafes lining the square. St Anton, the historic old quarter of the village, is home to rustic stone homes with flat roofs and winding streets lined with tiny shops. other spellings: atard otel, atterd hotell, attart hote, attard hotels, attad hotle, atard hote
