Several bus companies provide daily services to the main bus terminal at Alor Setar. The local train network also has trains running to Alor Setar. The overnight train service from Kuala Lumpur is very popular with the locals and tourists. Passengers will need to get off here and take a taxi to the jetty and then a boat to reach Langkawi.
By air: the international airport, located about 20 kms from Kuah, is modern and efficient. In addition to handling daily flights from domestic airports, the airport also services international flights from London, Osaka, Taipei and Singapore but there is usually a transit period at Kuala Lumpur. Air Asia has several daily flights from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi with a flight time of approximately one hour.
