The beaches: surrounding Langkawi are all spectacularly beautiful but some are a little crowded. Quieter, less crowded beaches can be found at Teluk Datai, the stunning bay beach at Pantai Kok and Pantai Tengah.
The more popular beaches that attract the tourists are Pantai Cemang, a 2km long strip of palm lined beach and the beaches at Tanjung Rhu. All sorts of water sports including kayaking, jet skiing, sailing, deep sea fishing, snorkelling, scuba diving and other activities are available here.
The other courses are situated in scenic areas with the Gunung Raya course nestled on the island’s highest peak and the Langkawi Golf Club course sitting on a hill.
Shopping: in Kuah town is a must for its duty-free items. Cheap items include alcoholic beverages, cigarettes, chocolates, perfumes and electrical goods. Kuah also offers many quaint local stores selling beachwear, souvenirs, crafts and other curious items. Several restaurants also line the small town’s main street although Pantai Tengah is the place to head to for good seafood.
On a rainy day, head down to the Awana Porto Malai for a game of indoor bowling. It is also a good spot for relaxing at covered sidewalk caves which overlook the marina or browsing in the several small boutiques before watching a movie at the small theatre.
