State Mosque: built in 1991, this magnificent site is a major landmark in Kuantan boasting an exquisite dome and its four minarets in the pretty shade of blue and green. State Mosque is a must to visit located at the heart of Kuantan reflecting pure Muslim faith of Malay community.
Kuli Sri Mariamman: is a small but charming Hindu temple situated at the heart of the city. With an array of tiny statues dedicated to the Hindu Gods, this temple is a centre of spirituality for the Hindu community. But what seems to be very interesting and unique here are the rain gutters that display a tiger head and an elephant trunk. The water sprays out from the head and the trunk when it rains heavily.
Along the road to Gua Charah, you can find a limestone cavern with a gigantic nine-metre reclining Buddha statue. Make sure to stay until noon because it is the time when sunlight shines into the cave and light up the statue, a stunning sight you shouldn’t miss. The Pandan waterfall is also located near that area so bring some clothes to change if you want to jump in for a refreshing dip in a cool natural pool.
Tasik Chini Lake: is an ideal destination if you are into mythology and mystery. Made up of 13 fresh water lakes, Tasik Chini is an Asian version of the Scotland’s Loch Ness where monsters were believed to be spotted by the locals. Another belief is that it was the sight where an ancient Khmer city was located and this mythical city sank into the lake by itself to escape from attackers. Nature lovers will also love Tasik Chini Lake as there are more than 100 species of fish and 400 species of birds around this area.
Pulau Ular: (or ‘Snake Island’) is famous for its fascinating legend about snakes saving the village from being attacked by the pirates. A small rocky island located 20 minutes by boat from a quaint little village at Sungai Ular, the island is an ideal place for fishing and exciting adventures as the locals believe there are still some snakes residing on the island.
