Kuala Lumpur Travel Guide - Getting Around

Foot: like other great South East Asian cities, with the exception of Singapore, trying to get about on foot can be very difficult. The traffic is constant, noisy and smelly; there are few pedestrian crossings and pathways; pick pockets can be a problem in certain areas and, due to bad drainage, walking anywhere when its raining can leave you ankle-deep in water.
With that said, seasoned travellers should be fine on foot and the likes of Chinatown and Bukit Bintang are largely pedestrianised.
The monorail - People-Mover Rapid Transit (PRT) – meets with the LRT and runs south and southwest from Jalan Tun Razak, through the Golden Triangle to Kampung Pasir.
Bus: travelling by bus is the cheapest way to get about Kuala Lumpur and there is a pretty good bus network in operation, with a number of different companies offering services. In addition, most buses are air-conditioned but travelling by bus during rush hour times can be a headache.
Taxi: the fastest and easiest way to get from point-to-point in KL is undoubtedly by taxi. Taxis are cheap and in good supply, although some drivers will refuse to use the meter at busy times of the day, if at all. If the drivers won’t switch on the meter or agree to your price, then simply get out and hail another.
In addition, you may think the driver is duping you by making what seems like a roundabout journey to your intended destination. In reality, nowhere is in a straight line in KL and you’ll just have to trust the driver, or take it on the chin if he does deviate a little.
