Festivals and Events in Kuala Lumpur
January/February Festivals

Chinese New Year: is known and celebrated in Chinatowns the world over with lion dances and feasts to ward off evil spirits, as well as to usher in the lunar new year. Virtually all Chinese will travel home to large family reunion dinners on the eve of the new year and Kuala Lumpur’s large Chinese population means that the town’s population swells somewhat.
KL City Day: held on the 1st of February every year at Taman Tasik Perdana and Taman Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur Day commemorates its declaration as a Federal Territory, with fun festivities and performances.
August Festivals

National Day: Kuala Lumpur’s National Day is celebrated with verve and features public performances and parades in Independence Square. In addition, the city streets are decorated and beautified with numerous lights.
September Festivals

Malaysia Fest: one for the shopping malls and hotels of Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysia Fest celebrates the country’s culture, cuisine and handicrafts from a number of states over a two-week period.
October/November Festivals

Deepavali: literally the ‘Festival of Lights’, Deepavali is celebrated by the city’s Hindus marking the triumph of good over evil. Homes all across the city are festooned with lights.
December Festivals

Christmas: is celebrated in Kuala Lumpur and the rest of Malaysia like anywhere else in the world, with shopping centres belting out Christmas carols and mass held at churches city-wide on Christmas eve; 25th December.
