Introduction to Terengganu - Redang Island
Redang Island is one of the biggest islands off peninsular Malaysia's East Coast. Along with eight islands, it forms a marine park which offers terrific snorkelling and diving opportunities. Ferries on the mainland at Merang and Kuala Terengganu connect the peninsula with the islands. What's more, the island is also a major conservation area for endangered sea turtles. It has been going strong since 1989, helping the turtles evolve to maturity, one fledgling newborn at a time. The Pulau Redang archipelago is made up of the islands (pulau) of Redang, Lima, Paku Besar, Paku Kecil, Kerengga Kecil, Kerengga Besar, Ekor Tebu, Ling and Pinang. More widely scattered are the also nearby islands of Perhentian Besar, Perhentian Kecil, Lang Tengah and Kapas. Pulau Redang's tallest mountain, Bukit Besar, rises to 359 metres. Redang is the archipelago's largest island, measuring about six by seven kilometres. Redang Island hotels naturally focus on the beach and the myriad ways of enjoying it.
