Introduction to Sabah - Tawau
Bustling Tawau is a boomtown for the area's lumber and cocoa farming industry that really took off in the 1980s and has since then shown no signs of slowing. This is the third-largest town in eastern Malaysia's Sabah State. You can take your pick of Tawau hotels - there are plenty of kinds to choose from. Good ferry connections link the city to neighbouring islands such as Jolo Sebatik, Tarakan , Nunukan and Semporna. Travellers can enter Sabah via Tawau International Airport. A nine-hour bus ride on a comfortable coach separates Tawau and Kota Kinabalu, the state's largest town. The Indonesian cities of Nunukan and Tarakan, in East Kalimantan Province, are also linked to Tawau by ferry. Many tourists come here just for the fabulous scuba diving conditions. Popular sites include the Roach Reefs, Mataking, Kapalai, Mabul and Pompong. Central Market offers local and regional goods from elsewhere in Malaysia plus Indonesia, while Tawau Bazaar sells typical handicrafts and souvenirs like batik sarongs and Sabah t-shirts.other spellings: tawau otel, tarwau hotell, tawau hote, tawu hotles, tawou hotle, tawuu hotes
