Introduction to Kuching - Damai
Damai is a northerly district in the relatively unexplored Kuching town, in Eastern Malaysia's Sarawak State in the northeast of the island of Borneo. Kuching has a large and largely traditional Chinatown, where you can sip locally made coffee starring liberica beans. Damai hotels and resorts cater to those who take their playtime seriously. This is an area of great natural beauty for the natural surroundings - the beach, Mount Santubong and the forests - and cultural attractions such as the traditional and mysterious tribes that live inland. Water sports are taken to with great enthusiasm and are widely available. The area successfully mixes cultural and natural attractions. Capped off with great international dining or sampling of the exotic local cuisine - sago, anyone? - Damai makes an ideal destination for adventurers as well as those who don't like doing anything more complicated than repeatedly lifting a cocktail to their lips while basking in the sun. The Kuching Mosque and Cat Museum are fun to explore.
