Introduction to Kuantan - City Centre
Getting around the dreamy beachside Malaysian community of Kuantan is a breeze - if you avoid the slow local buses and take the (still affordable) taxis. Just hook yourself up with one of the many great Kuantan City Centre hotels, which range from budget to multi-star, exchange your dollars for ringgit and get ready for some serious relaxation, eating and culture. The town's markets are well known for their tasty keropok (fish crackers) and salted and marinated fish. Indians in town make naan bread and tandoori chicken, which are regional favourites. In south Kuantan, the elaborate and beautiful Sultan Ahmad Shah State Mosque is found. Shopping is an enjoyable past-time here, particularly at the new East Coast Mall in the heart of the city. Nearby Teluk Chempedak beach to the east offers water sports in abundance. Boating and kayaking are particularly popular here.
