Introduction to Kuantan - Cherating Beach
Malaysia's laid-back resort of Cherating Beach is a popular tourist destination that attracts travellers from all over the globe for sun-filled holidays. Found just north of Kuantan and along the coast of the South China Sea, this former fishing village offers a stunning wide beach to relax on and water that is ideal for yachting, swimming and surfing. It is home to Asia's first Club Med, but also has more budget-friendly Cherating Beach hotels for those with smaller pockets. There is a turtle sanctuary nearby that is worth visiting in July or August when the turtles lay their eggs. The Cherating Cultural Centre offers batik and kite flying classes, and river cruises can be enjoyed along the Ceratung River, which is minutes away from the sand. The village itself is a great place to taste the local cuisine, with eateries here offering authentic Malay cuisine despite the area's tourism. Visit our Kuantan Travel Guide
