Introduction to Kuala Selangor, Malaysia

Though it is today a relatively small community, Kuala Selangor was once the royal capital of the state of Selangor. Located close to the sea, where the Selangor River empties into the Malacca Strait, the town is a popular holiday and resort destination. The town offers the chance to join many local tourists, most of whom take weekend breaks from Kuala Lumpur to enjoy the local sights, the infamous monkeys and the dazzling fireflies that sparkle in the night. Bukit Melawati, once the site of a fortress, is of both great historical significance and a perfect place to enjoy panoramic views of the chattering monkeys. The sunsets seen from this hill are considered among the most impressive in the country. Children will be especially excited to see the fireflies, who put on a show after dark. Firefly Park, the most popular venue for this evening activity, is less than 20 minutes' drive from hotels in Kuala Selangor. The Pasir Penambang area, a few minutes to the north, is very well known for the impressive seafood available in its restaurants, many of which offer excellent views across the river. The bus station at Bandar Malawati puts Kuala Lumpur just two hours away.
