Sultan Abdul Samad Building was built in 1848 by British architects, the Sultan Abdul Samad Building is today a court house but was originally the offices of the Colonial Secretariat. They also served as the first administrative centre of the Malayan government. The architects, AC Norman and AB Hubback, were two of Britain’s best at the time and the structure is noted for its Asian-inspired architecture as opposed to Islamic-inspired and features a 40-metre high clock tower. Droves of people congregate here during National Day and New Year’s celebrations.
