Introduction to Kuala Lumpur - Chow Kit
A melting pot of different cultures from Indonesia to Africa, Kuala Lumpur's Chow Kit is a great area for shopping due to its excellent markets. The wet market here is the largest of its kind in the Malaysian capital and something of a tourist attraction. There are some excellent snacks on sale here, including exotic fruit from across the country. The night market on Lorong Haji Taib specialises in used clothes and other fashion accessories at incredibly low prices. Even if you are not buying, it is well worth a visit for the atmosphere or a bite to eat alone. Chow Kit is also well placed for getting to Jalan Sultan Ismail, an up-and-coming night spot featuring restaurants and clubs galore. Chow Kit hotels have traditionally fallen within the budget category, meaning the area is popular with backpackers and younger travellers.
