Introduction to Kuala Lumpur - Chinatown
The very heart of the Malaysian capital and a major commercial area, Kuala Lumpur's Chinatown is the first stop for many visitors.

Petaling Street looks like chaos from the outside, and it is even more so once you get inside this covered market, but it is also the best places to pick up bargains.

Just make sure to haggle ferociously.

The area around the market is home to a wealth of Chinese restaurants serving a variety of styles from the mainland, often with a Malaysian twist.

Unsurprisingly, Chinatown is home to a number of old temples including Sze Ya, the oldest of its kind in Kuala Lumpur, with its attractive and highly elaborate roof.

The Chan She Shu Yuan clan house represents another interesting glimpse into Chinese life here.

Chinatown hotels represent some of the best value accommodation in the Malaysian capital.

Head to those concentrated around the area just north of Petaling Street for the best options.
