Introduction to Kapit, Malaysia
Deep inside the interior of Malaysia's Sarawak State, the charming, relaxed town of Kapit is located along the upper reaches of the Rejang River, which is also the main method of getting in and out of town. River boats from Sibu are the main way people arrive here. The journey takes about three hours. The fastest way to connect to buses and other road travel links is to take an express boat back to Sibu. The most popular attraction for most visitors staying at hotels in Kapit is the ancient longhouses. The 100-year-old Rumah Bundong is easily the most famous and is roughly 40kms from the town. The bright and cheery markets, such as Pasar Terasang, are also must-see places here. Among the usual trinkets and local handicrafts, watch out for the unusual jungle produce sold by the local Iban and Orang Ulu people. The 19th-century Fort Sylvia can be reached on foot. A small museum here tells the history of this reminder of colonial activities in the region.other spellings: kapet otel, kapit hotell, kapit hote, kapit hotels, karpit hotle, kapit hotes
