Introduction to Kangar, Malaysia
Literally the end of the line, the town of Kangar, which is the capital of Perlis State, sits right up in the north of Malaysia. The next town to the north is across the border in Thailand. The town takes its name after the eponymous river that runs to the west and empties into the ocean at the Malacca Strait, about 15 minutes' drive away. This is the smallest town in Malaysia, and it is populated primarily by civil servants and farmers. Though most of the buildings here are shop houses, there are some interesting buildings such as the State Secretariat Building, an impressive Art Deco monument from the 1930s. Most things in the town are easily reached from hotels in Kangar. If you get hungry, look for the EPF Tower, one of the town's tallest structures. You'll find local Perlis cuisine available at restaurants nearby. Don't miss the house of Dato Wan Ahmad, a delightful wooden structure from the 1920s. About 10 minutes' drive to the west at Kuala Perlis, Kubu Hill Recreational Park is home to an impressive cave. Railway services stop about 15km away at Arau. By bus, Kuala Lumpur is more than six hours away.other spellings: kanga otel, kengar hotell, kangar hote, kangarhotels, kangar hotle, kanga hotes
