Introduction to Gerik, Malaysia
A district capital located in the northern Malaysian state of Perak, Gerik sees many visitors who take a break here during travel to other parts of Malaysia and Thailand. The East-West Highway which links Kota Bharu in the east with towns to the west runs close to the town on its way to Penang. Like many such small towns in this predominantly Muslim country, Gerik offers a local mosque that is one of the big attractions for most travellers. The area around the town is also home to several forest resorts that cater for tourists keen on eco-tourism and rainforests. A huge, multi-fingered group of lakes called Tasik Temengor is just 40 minutes to the northeast of the town. Highway 76, running south from the town, largely follows the Sungei Perak river to more pretty lakes at Kampung Kelantan, little more than an hour away. Getting in and out of the town is fairly straightforward if you're driving as the highways are good quality. Buses are also quite rapid. Penang is two hours to the west. In addition to hotels in Gerik, visitors can try homestays.other spellings: otelin gerik, gerrik hotell, gerek hote, gerikhotels, gerik hotle, kerik hotes
