Enjoy a stroll around the city: taking in the lovely Place d’Armes, which is the city’s main square and enjoy the nearby outdoor cafes, restaurants, street vendors and weekly markets. You can continue on, going down to the area called the Grund, beside the Alzette River, where you’ll find quite a number of restaurants and cafes as well.
The Grund can be accessed by a lift that carries you down through a shaft carved out of the rock: you’ll find the entrance to the lift at Place Feschmaart. A colourful spectacle that you might like to see is the changing of the guard at the palace (Palais Grand Ducal), which is also the Grand Duke’s official residence. To round out your meanderings, if you’re visiting on a Wednesday or Saturday morning, a short walk on to the Place Guillaume is in order, to take in its markets.
Go cycling: many cycle paths are provided in the city and throughout the country, enabling cyclists to travel in relative safety and to enjoy the attractions of the city and beautiful scenery of the landscape beyond.
There are particularly interesting paths that follow the Moselle River, through the valley of the same name – and also others that pass through forested areas, such as the Bambush forest, or the Grengewald. Be advised that the country is rather hilly, so you should be prepared for some moderately-strenuous activity.
